Womack goes 3-for-4, Leads Swamp Foxes to Win
|
The Savannah Swamp Foxes beat the Columbus Clippers, 7-4, at Paradise Grounds. Savannah shortstop Tony Womack earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3. David Nied picked up the win with 7 innings of work. He allowed 4 earned runs on 8 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 5. On the season, he is now 3-5. The 5th-place Swamp Foxes raised their record to 18-20.
Edgard Clemente had a big run-scoring single for the Swamp Foxes in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Savannah leading 4-3 and the bases loaded, he got a changeup from Bill Wegman and stroked the single to center. It was his 5th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Swamp Foxes ahead, 5-3.
Womack said his wife shared good advice with him before the game. "She said, 'Don't allow this game to make you mad.' When I thought about it, I realized this is just a game. I was able to relax at the plate."
