Thursday, January 1st, 1998
After prolonged negotiations Charlotte agreed to ship 33-year-old RHP Jose J. Bautista to Milwaukee for 39-year-old LHP Teddy Higuera. The deal is awaiting confirmation from the league office but neither team expects any hang-ups.

"It took longer than expected," said one GM, "but we knew that the deal was going to happen."

During his career Bautista has made 49 relief appearances and converted 4 saves. His record stands at 2-11 with a 6.23 ERA.

In his 365-game career Higuera has been credited with 168 wins, 125 losses and 0 saves. His ERA stands at 3.73, and he has fired third strikes past 2383 batters in 2590.2 innings while giving up 661 walks.
