Montreal Expos (52-32) 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 2 9 1
Senators Score Late, Top Expos, 3-2
The Senators had to overcome a fine performance from Montreal pitcher Pedro Martinez to grab a 3-2 win at Olympic Stadium. Martinez allowed no earned runs over 6.1 innings. Troy Percival notched his 19th save in 19 chances. Washington is now 56-29, 3½ games up in the United League East Division.

Washington used the clutch hitting of Jason Kendall to capture the win. The catcher drilled a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to give the Senators the lead, 3-2. For the game, Kendall had 1 single and 1 double in 3 at-bats.

"I was a little disappointed," said Montreal manager David Polakoff. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
