The Boston Red Sox relied on the hitting of first baseman Phil B. Clark to stop the Cleveland Spiders, 7-4. For the game, Clark was 2 for 4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. Ron Mahay got the save, his 4th in 7 chances. The 5th-place Red Sox raised their record to 33-53.

Boston took a 6-1 lead on Clark's 6th home run of the season. The grand slam home run, which he hit off Jose Jimenez in the bottom of the eighth, propelled Boston to the win.

"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Clark.
