Tigers Need Extra Frames to Get Past Mets
The Tigers grabbed a win, 3-2, at Shea Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from New York pitcher Takehiro Ishii. Ishii went 6.1 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Detroit reliever Brad Clontz picked up the win, bumping his record to 4-9. Wayne Edwards was collared with the loss. The Mets, at 52-37, have lost 5 straight games.

The most important at-bat for Detroit came in the top of the tenth inning, when second baseman Wil Cordero stroked a 1-0 fastball to left-center for a run-scoring double, putting Detroit up, 3-2.

In postgame comments, Cordero said he was glad to contribute to an exciting win.
