Phillies Deal Marlins Painful Loss
|
The Florida Marlins got a superb performance from right fielder Rondell White. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Philadelphia. The Phillies won the game, 5-4. In spite of the loss, White was named the player of the game. He was 3 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. With the loss, Florida drops to 5-4.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Mike Gallego came to bat in the bottom of the 11th. Facing Florida pitcher Paul Shuey, he hit a 2-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Philadelphia on top, 5-4.
In postgame comments, Gallego said, "I think we gave the fans their money's worth."
