Late Rally by Cardinals Secures Win
|
Charlotte designated hitter Jason Giambi had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 4-3, to St. Louis at Comiskey Park. Giambi went 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. St. Louis reliever Gil Heredia picked up the win to move to 1-0. Teddy Higuera suffered the loss. Steve Chitren was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 15 of 19 save opportunities.
This game was not decided until late. With one out in the top of the ninth, Ivan Calderon hit a run-scoring double. The Cardinals took the lead, 4-3.
"We take it day by day here," said Calderon, "and today was a good one for us."
St. Louis now sits in third place in the Federal League Central Division at 46-46.
