Benefiting from Andruw Jones's productive game, the Kansas City Royals downed the Chicago Cubs, 5-4. Jones went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs for the Royals. Armando Benitez picked up the save, his 5th. The Cubs fall to 3-7 and continue their uneasy start to the 1998 season.

Phil Plantier delivered a big hit for the Royals. The veteran left fielder belted a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh. The longball put Kansas City on top, 4-4. Overall, Plantier went 1-3 with a home run.

"It was sure nice to get the win but there's a lot of baseball left," Jones after the game.
