Mets Rally to Eke Out Win
|
The home team gave the Shea Stadium fans plenty to cheer about, with a thrilling walk-off win.
The New York Mets eked out a 3-2 win versus the Montreal Expos at Shea Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Takehiro Ishii, who captured player of the game honors. New York reliever Mike Sirotka picked up the win, upping his record to 9-1. Bobby Munoz was saddled with the loss.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter B.J. Surhoff came to bat in the bottom of the 16th. Facing Montreal pitcher Dave Leiper, he hit a first pitch sinker for a run-scoring double. It was a game-changer, putting New York on top, 3-2.
"I like our resilience," said Ishii.
The losing streak for Montreal has now reached 4 games.
