Andy Ashby dominated the Los Angeles Dodgers with a brilliant 1-hit shutout in a San Diego Padres 1-0 triumph at Jack Murphy Stadium. The San Diego hurler fanned 9 and walked 1 in the game and was singled out for praise afterward by the opposing manager.

"He really kept us in check today," Dodgers skipper Dave Ginter said in his postgame comments. "Everything looked to be moving. Seemed like the pitch was right down the middle and it went over down and away. We took some pathetic swings."
