Diamondbacks Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Orioles
|
The Arizona Diamondbacks went home winners at Bank One Ballpark, thanks in large part to starter Aaron Sele. Sele silenced the Baltimore Orioles, enabling Arizona to grab the 2-1 win. Reliever Eddie Guardado picked up the win. His record improves to 9-1. Pat Rapp took the loss. Danny Patterson earned his 20th save in 25 chances.
Dante Bichette was 1-3 for Arizona. The two-time All-Star had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and a runner on 3rd, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off T J Mathews. It was his 4th RBI of the season.
"It'd be nice to win by four or five runs," Sele said, "instead of holding our breath the whole game."
Arizona is now 56-43, 2½ games up in the United League West Division.
