Cubs Prove Rude Guests, Win 8-1 at Cleveland
The Chicago Cubs topped the Cleveland Spiders, 8-1, with first baseman Don Mattingly playing a big role. Mattingly was 3-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Cubs in the win. Mike Stanton converted his 3rd save in 3 tries. The last-place Cubs have won 4 in a row.

Chicago needed the clutch hitting of Carmelo Martinez to notch the win. The designated hitter hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Cubs on top, 4-1. For the game, Martinez had 1 home run and 1 single in 3 at-bats.

"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Mattingly told the Chicago Gazette.
