Royals Topple Reds with Late Rally
Kansas City Royals starter Kevin Brown turned in a workmanlike performance against the Cincinnati Reds at Riverfront Stadium. He threw 8 innings of 7-hit ball in the 6-5 win. Rod Beck got the save, his 7th in 9 chances. This loss makes it 6 in a row for Cincinnati.

Kansas City needed the clutch hitting of Phil Plantier to notch the win. The designated hitter hammered a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Royals on top, 6-5. For the game, Plantier had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

In postgame comments to the Kansas City Today, Brown said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
