Devil Rays Turn Back Minnesota, 3-1
Orlando Devil Rays starter John Smoltz pitched effectively against the Minnesota Twins at Metrodome. The right-hander spearheaded his team's 3-1 win. Xavier Hernandez was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 3 of 6 save opportunities. The Devil Rays bumped their record to 54-47 with this latest triumph.

It could have been a different outcome for Orlando, had it not been for Brian McRae, the 30-year old left fielder . McRae contributed a 2-run single in the top of the second inning to put Orlando up, 2-0.

"We take it day by day here," said McRae, "and today was a good one for us."
