Both teams had their chances, but the New York Mets eventually prevailed at Shea Stadium.

The New York Mets eked out a 4-3 win versus the Oakland Athletics at Shea Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Tom Glavine, who captured player of the game honors. The third-place Mets now have a 6-game winning streak.

Gary Sheffield, who is tied for 6th in the UL with a .878 OPS, aided the New York cause with a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the shortstop drew 1 walk in 4 trips to the plate.

"I like how we're playing right now," said Sheffield.
