Phillies Win in Extras
|
The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Charlotte Knights, 5-4, at Yankee Stadium. Philadelphia center fielder Ryan Thompson earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He was 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Jose Mesa, credited with the win, is now 2-4. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2.1 innings. The Phillies improved to 42-64.
Thompson had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the 11th. On a 1-0 fastball from Darren Holmes, he banged a solo home run to left, giving the Phillies a 5-4 lead. It was the 14th home run of the year for Thompson.
"I was a little disappointed," said Charlotte manager Tyler Vuxta. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
