The Chicago Cubs got a superb performance from pitcher LaTroy Hawkins. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Minnesota. The Twins won the game, 4-2. In spite of the loss, Hawkins was named the player of the game. He threw 5 innings of 3-hit ball. The Twins, now 56-54, have won 9 in a row.

The Twins got a big at-bat from third baseman Abraham O Nunez. For the game, Nunez was 2 for 4 with 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 101st hit of the season gave Minnesota a 3-2 lead.

"It was just a matter of executing," said Minnesota manager Darren Fischbach.
