Blue Jays Snatch 4-3 Win
|
The Toronto Blue Jays eked out a 4-3 win versus the Baltimore Orioles at Memorial Stadium. Nobody did more than second baseman Derek Jeter, who captured player of the game honors. Bob Sebra, the winner, improved to 4-1. He held the Orioles to no earned runs on 5 hits over 6.1 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 1. Matt Mantei was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 11 of 11 save opportunities.
Toronto needed the clutch hitting of Mike Greenwell to notch the win. The designated hitter hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Blue Jays on top, 3-0. For the game, Greenwell had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
Greenwell attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
The Blue Jays sit in 4th place in the United League East Division with a record of 61-52.
