Washington Senators starter John Burkett was in fine form against the Colorado Rockies at Mile High Stadium, leading his team to a 10-2 win. Burkett, now 15-7, was the winner. In 8.1 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 7, walking 5, and allowing 2 earned runs. Washington is now 74-43, 2½ games up in the United League East Division.

Washington used a timely hit from Carlos Guillen to get the win. The second baseman delivered a 2-run triple in the top of the fifth inning to put the Senators on top, 3-0. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"We're one win closer to our goal," Burkett said in postgame remarks.
