Cardinals Turn Back Florida, 5-3
St. Louis Cardinals starter Miguel Batista was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Florida Marlins, 5-3. The Cardinals bumped their record to 61-59 with this latest triumph.

Stan Javier had a big 2-run single for the Cardinals in the bottom of the fourth inning. With St. Louis leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Wilson Alvarez and stroked the single to left. It was his 59th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cardinals ahead, 3-0.

Batista called the triumph "a good team win."
