Reds Trip Royals in Extras
|
The Cincinnati Reds had to overcome a big game from Kansas City right fielder Richard Hidalgo to leave Royals Stadium with a 5-3 victory. Hidalgo went 3 for 5 with 2 home runs and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Cincinnati reliever Arthur Rhodes was the winner. His record is now 4-2. The losing pitcher was Kevin Rogers. Cincinnati is second in the Federal League East Division with a record of 68-50.
Cincinnati used the timely hitting of Scott Spiezio to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the 12th inning to put the Reds on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Enjoyed this one," Spiezio told the Cincinnati Gazette. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
