Victory Over Cardinals Takes Florida to 74-45
The Florida Marlins topped the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 7-5, with the largest share of the credit going to right fielder Rondell White. White was 2-4 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice for the Marlins. Sterling Hitchcock picked up the win with 8 innings of work. He allowed 5 earned runs on 8 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 9. On the season, he is now 5-2. The first-place Marlins, at 74-45, now lead their division by 6 games.

One important at-bat came with runners on 1st and 3rd in the top of the fifth inning. Facing St. Louis hurler Mike Harkey, Richie Sexson, who leads the FL in home runs with 42, grounded out, driving in 1 run. The Marlins went on to win.

"I still think this team has room for improvement," White told the Florida Times.
