The Chicago Cubs defeated the Cleveland Spiders, 15-7. Earning player of the game honors was left fielder Rich Becker, who was 2 for 3 with a double and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 5. Chicago is now 49-71, while Cleveland is 43-77.

Becker contributed a big hit, a 2-run double, for Chicago in the bottom of the second. With his team trailing 1-0, Becker took a curveball from Jim Stoops and stroked the double to right-center. His 8th double of the season allowed the Cubs to leap in front, 2-1.
