Cardinals Fall to .500 After Loss to Marlins
|
The Florida Marlins defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, 6-4, at Busch Stadium today. Leading the charge for Florida was third baseman John Valentin. He was 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. The first-place Marlins, at 75-45, now lead their division by 6½ games.
Florida used the timely hitting of Richie Sexson to capture the win. The first baseman socked a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Marlins ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Valentin.
