Athletics Squelch Angels Offense in Shutout Win
The Las Vegas Angels got a superb performance from pitcher Matt Clement, but the Oakland Athletics still won the game, 3-0. Clement was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 7 innings of 2-hit ball. Jaret Wright, credited with the win, is now 6-9. He allowed no runs on 3 hits in 6 innings. Matt Whisenant was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 1 of 1 save opportunities.

Oakland used the timely hitting of John Olerud to capture the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Athletics on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but he made it count.

"Not too many highlights on our side," said losing manager Kevin Patterson.

The 'W' lifts Oakland's record to 47-75.
