Mets Prove Rude Guests, Win 7-1 at Baltimore
New York Mets starter Tom Glavine kept the Baltimore Orioles hitters in check, leading his team to a comfortable 7-1 win. The Mets bumped their record to 70-52 with this latest triumph.

New York needed the clutch hitting of Phil Nevin to notch the win. The third baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Mets on top, 5-0. For the game, Nevin had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"We're in a marathon, not a sprint," Nevin said in postgame remarks. "Soon enough, the finish line will be in sight."
