Devil Rays Shut Out Spiders
|
Cleveland had no answer for Orlando Devil Rays hurler Alan Benes, who overwhelmed Spiders hitters as the Devil Rays coasted to a 10-0 victory. The Spiders, now 43-80, have lost 4 straight.
Ron Gant, who finished 3rd in the UL in RBI with 117 in 1992, chipped in for Orlando with a 3-run home run in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the designated hitter had 2 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 3 RBI.
Devil Rays manager Ben Tennyson had nothing but praise for his players after an impressive win, calling the result one of the team's best performances of the season. "Everything just came together on our end," he said. "I didn't need to do too much."
