Cubs Lose, 8-3, at Royals Stadium
|
The Kansas City Royals stopped the Chicago Cubs, 8-3, behind an impressive performance from Rick Wilkins. The three-time All-Star made life miserable for Chicago pitching. He was 2-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Kansas City starter Bobby J. Jones was credited with the win after throwing 120 pitches over 8.1 innings. His record now stands at 14-7. Kansas City is second in the Federal League Central Division with a record of 77-47.
Wilkins had a big at-bat with runners on 1st and 2nd in the bottom of the second inning, when he hit a 2-run double. The Royals went on to win.
"The name of the game is scoring runs," Wilkins said. "We did a good job of that today."
