Athletics Solve Diamondbacks, 4-2
|
Alex Fernandez pitched well, but the Arizona Diamondbacks still lost the game, falling 4-2 to the Oakland Athletics at Oakland Coliseum. Oakland reliever Calvin Jones was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Alex Fernandez took the loss for Arizona. Toby Borland was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 3 of 8 save opportunities.
The Athletics got a big at-bat from right fielder Jay Buhner. For the game, Buhner went 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 22nd home run of the season gave Oakland a 3-2 lead.
"I thought we played a nice game," Buhner told the Oakland Gazette. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
Oakland is now 48-79, while Arizona is 66-60.
