New York beat Arizona on the strength of starter Frank Castillo's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a 4-3 win. Armando Benitez got the save, his 5th in 5 chances. With the win, the Mets have a record of 73-57.

The Mets got an important contribution from center fielder Lance Johnson, who in the top of the eighth hit a first pitch curveball into right for a run-scoring double. It was his 4th double of the season and put the Mets ahead, 4-3.

"We played hard and won," said Castillo. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'
