Halladay, Columbus Prevail in Pitchers' Duel
Crowds lined up early in front of Mules Ballpark, eagerly awaiting the start of the 1998 Hugg Baseball League season. On the mound was Shane Reynolds for the visiting Savannah Swamp Foxes and Roy Halladay for the hometown Columbus Clippers. In a spirited contest, the Clippers pulled out the win, defeating the Swamp Foxes by the score of 2-1. Earning player of the game honors was Roy Halladay. Vladimir Nunez recorded the save for Columbus, his 1st of the season.

The Swamp Foxes had trouble solving Halladay, who surrendered 1 earned run on 3 hits over 8 innings.

"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Halladay told the Columbus Bulletin. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
