Devil Rays Beat Visiting Red Sox, 6-2
|
Orlando Devil Rays starter Alan Benes turned in a top-notch performance against the Boston Red Sox at Orlando Citrus Bowl. The result was a win for the Devil Rays, 6-2. Benes, now 1-1, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 9, walking 0, and allowing 1 earned run. Rich Garces finished to wrap up his 4th save.
The Devil Rays got a big at-bat from right fielder Tim Salmon. For the game, Salmon went 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 3rd home run of the season gave Orlando a 2-0 lead.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Benes told the Orlando Daily News.
The win pushes Orlando to a record of 8-7.
