Moonshiners Solve Swamp Foxes, 6-2
|
The Asheville Moonshiners trumped the Savannah Swamp Foxes, 6-2, at Torrance Grounds. Asheville left fielder Billy McMillon was named player of the game for his performance. He went 3 for 4 with 3 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Carl Pavano was the winning pitcher. Over 5 innings, he allowed 1 run on 7 hits, with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. Getting the save was Juan Nieves, his 1st.
With Asheville leading 1-0 in the bottom of the first, McMillon hit a curveball from Don Schulze for a 2-run single. It was his 17th hit of the season and put the Moonshiners ahead, 3-0.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," McMillon told the Asheville Daily. "It's as simple as that."
The Moonshiners, now 9-16, know that wins in April count the same as wins in September.
