The Hartford Whalers defeated the Danville Dairy Daddies, 5-4, in Atlantic action at Kernels Ballpark, with Hartford pitcher Shawn Estes named player of the game. Hartford reliever Chris Holt picked up the win, upping his record to 2-2. Pete Harnisch shouldered the loss. Paul Byrd earned the save, his 6th.

The Whalers got a big at-bat from pinch hitter Alex Ochoa, who in the top of the ninth hit a run-scoring double. It was his 2nd double of the season and put the Whalers on top, 5-4.

"We'll savor this win," Ochoa told the Hartford Daily, "then get ready for the next game."

The Whalers bumped their record to 21-18 with this latest triumph.
