The inspired effort of Asheville first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz was not enough to prevent a 10-9 loss to the Bluff City Beasties. Mientkiewicz was 4 for 5 with 2 doubles and 2 singles. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. Ramon Pena picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 4-3. Jeff Juden was tagged with the loss. The Beasties now have a mark of 23-25.
Alex Gonzalez had a productive at-bat for the Beasties with one out in the bottom of the ninth. With a runner on 2nd, the left fielder hit a single. The at-bat was important in the Bluff City win.
Gonzalez said this kind of win gives the team "a buzz."
