The New York Mets picked up a win at Oakland Coliseum, knocking off the Oakland Athletics, 6-5. On the mound for New York was right-hander Frank Castillo, who played a pivotal role in the win. Mike Sirotka, credited with the win, is now 2-0. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.1 innings. The Mets, now 12-4, have been red hot.
Late-game drama came in the top of the 12th inning. With two out and the bases empty, New York shortstop Gary Sheffield hit a solo home run, helping his team get the win.
"Our team showed some spunk," said Sheffield.
