The inspired effort of Cincinnati left fielder Bernie Williams was not enough to prevent a 6-4 loss to the Minnesota Twins. Williams was 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Hideo Nomo earned the win for Minnesota. He lasted 8.1 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 6 hits, while striking out 6. With the win, he raised his record to 2-2. Rob Dibble recorded the save for Minnesota, his 2nd of the season.
Minnesota used the timely hitting of Kal Daniels to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Twins on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Daniels told the Minnesota Daily. "It's as simple as that."
The Reds drop to 7-10 and continue their inconsistent start to the 1998 season.
