Rockies Turn Back Baltimore, 5-4
|
Colorado Rockies starter Jason Schmidt pitched a strong game against the Baltimore Orioles at Memorial Stadium, leading the Rockies to a 5-4 win. The winning pitcher was Schmidt, now 2-2. He tossed 7 innings of 2-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 8. The Rockies, with just their 5th win so far in 1998, have yet to catch fire.
The Colorado win was a team effort. It included major contributions from, among others, Eric Davis. In the top of the fourth, the Colorado center fielder came to bat and hit a 2-run double. It staked his team to a 3-1 lead.
"Jason was pounding the zone," said Colorado manager Joe Gratefuldad.
