Whalers Score Late, Stun Bisons, 6-2
The Hartford Whalers topped the Buffalo Bisons by the score of 6-2, with the largest share of the credit going to catcher Robert Fick. Fick went 4-5 with 4 singles for the Whalers. The win was credited to Jack Armstrong in relief. His record improves to 3-1. Frank DiPino took the loss. Hartford has now won 3 in a row.

Hartford used the timely hitting of Jacob Cruz to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Whalers on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"If it's down the middle," said Fick, "you might as well hit it."
