Rockies Lose to Tigers, 7-2
|
Benefiting from Jose R Herrera's productive game, the Detroit Tigers downed the Colorado Rockies, 7-2. Herrera went 2 for 3 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Tigers. Vaughn Eshelman, who went 7 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 7 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 4. His record now stands at 1-1. The Rockies fall to 7-14 and continue their lackluster start to the 1998 season.
Shannon Stewart, who is tied for 3rd in the UL in runs scored with 16, aided the Detroit cause with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the third. For the game, the left fielder was 1-4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"You've got to ride the highs and the lows in baseball in order to succeed," Stewart told the Detroit Observer. "Right now I'm feeling good, but that don't mean squat for tomorrow."
