The Idaho Falls Chukars took Portland pitcher Steve Trachsel's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Alleycats Ballpark. The final score had Idaho Falls getting past the Stag, 5-4. Trachsel went 9 innings and allowed 4 earned runs, striking out 1. The win was Neil Weber's in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Kerry Ligtenberg took the loss for Portland. Idaho Falls, now 2-4, is off to a slow start.

The contest featured some late-game dramatics from Idaho Falls right fielder Dax Jones. In the bottom of the 12th inning, with two out and the bases loaded, Jones got hit by a pitch, driving in 1 run to help Idaho Falls seize the win.

"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Chukars manager . "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
