Portland right-hander Steve Trachsel made an effective start against the Tacoma Rainiers at Tuttle Fields, leading his team to a 3-2 win. The win lifts Portland to a record of 5-6.

Had Freddy F Garcia not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 1st, Garcia hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Stag.

"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Tacoma manager .
