New York overcame a superlative game from Aaron Sele to beat Arizona, 3-2. The Arizona pitcher took player of the game honors in a losing cause. He threw 9 innings of 4-hit ball. Frank Castillo got the win, improving to 4-0. He held the Diamondbacks to 2 earned runs on 6 hits over 9 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 1. The Mets raised their record to 15-6.
New York took a 3-2 lead on Olmedo Saenz's 4th home run of the season. The solo home run came off Arizona pitcher Aaron Sele in the top of the seventh.
"Coulda, shoulda, woulda," said Arizona manager Alen Maglajac. "We had our chances and didn't cash in."
