Garciaparra Excels, Charlotte Blows Out Chicago
|
With shortstop Nomar Garciaparra leading the charge, the Charlotte Knights defeated the Chicago Cubs, 18-1, at Comiskey Park. Garciaparra, who is tied for 4th in the FL with a 1.010 OPS, was 4-6 with a home run, a triple, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 7. The Knights, now 15-8, have been playing some good baseball.
Garciaparra had a key at-bat for Charlotte early in the game. With a runner on 1st, he hit a 2-run home run. It was his 8th home run of the season and gave Charlotte an early 2-0 lead.
"You score one run, you're not going to win," said Chicago skipper Anthony Perez. "You can have three Koufaxes and three Drysdales, you're still not going to win."
