Sky Sox Edge Brass, 3-2
|
The New Orleans Brass got a superb performance from pitcher Steve Cooke, but the Colorado Springs Sky Sox still won the game, 3-2. Cooke was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 5 innings allowing 3 runs. Colorado Springs reliever Tim Young picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Steve Cooke was saddled with the loss. Curtis King notched his 14th save in 14 chances.
Dmitri Young had a big 2-run double for the Sky Sox in the bottom of the third inning. With Colorado Springs leading 1-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a changeup from Steve Cooke and stroked the double to center. It was his 11th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Sky Sox ahead, 3-0.
"You've got to ride the highs and the lows in baseball in order to succeed," Young told the Colorado Springs News. "Right now I'm feeling good, but that don't mean squat for tomorrow."
The Brass, at 39-31, have lost 5 in a row.
