Simms Excels, But Brass Win
|
The New Orleans Brass had to overcome a big game from Spokane designated hitter Mike Simms to leave Bay Hawks Ballpark with a 6-5 victory. Simms slugged 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. New Orleans reliever Gar Finnvold was credited with the win, to go to 5-0. Joel Johnston took the loss for Spokane. Jeff Tam, credited with the save, is now 16 for 17 in save opportunities.
The New Orleans win was a team effort. It included major contributions from, among others, Rickey Cradle. In the bottom of the eighth, the New Orleans center fielder came to bat and hit a run-scoring single. It staked his team to a 6-5 lead.
"This is a very good team," said Cradle. "We have the chance to do something special."
New Orleans has now won 3 in a row.
