Spiders Stymie Boston, Take 7-1 Win
|
The Cleveland Spiders topped the Boston Red Sox by the score of 7-1, with the biggest share of the credit going to third baseman Kevin Mitchell. Mitchell was 1-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Spiders on the day. Trey Moore got the win, improving to 1-3. He held the Red Sox to 1 earned run on 5 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 1. Salomon Torres earned the save, his 1st, for the Spiders.
The game turned with no one out in the bottom of the fourth when Mitchell, who led the FL in wins above replacement with 7.5 in 1984, hit a 2-run home run. It propelled the Spiders into the lead, 2-0.
"We did a lot of things right," said Mitchell.
The Spiders are off to a tough start, getting just their 8th win in 24 games.
