Charlotte first baseman Jeff Bagwell had a 3-RBI game, which helped his team beat the Chicago Cubs, 6-1. Charlotte reliever David Wells was the winner. His record is now 2-0. The losing pitcher was LaTroy Hawkins. The Cubs fall to 10-15 and continue their uninspiring start to the 1998 season.

Bagwell made an early impact for Charlotte when he stroked his 5th home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which came in the bottom of the first, put the Knights on top, 3-0.
