Mets Stumble, Lose to Blue Jays
|
Toronto left-hander John Smiley pitched his team to victory over the New York Mets at Shea Stadium. The final score was 8-3. In 7 innings, Smiley surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 3. He allowed 2 runs. The Blue Jays raised their record to 15-9.
Ellis Burks, who finished 4th in the UL in extra base hits with 68 in 1991, aided the Toronto cause with a run-scoring double in the top of the fourth. For the game, the right fielder was 1-2 with a double.
