Reds Need Extra Frames to Get Past Devil Rays
|
The Cincinnati Reds did just enough to secure a 4-3 victory over the Orlando Devil Rays at Orlando Citrus Bowl. Nobody did more than pitcher Derek Lowe, who captured player of the game honors. Cincinnati reliever Brian Shouse picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Rich Garces shouldered the loss. The win brings the Reds to 11-14, a soft start for a team that made the playoffs just last season.
Matt Lawton in the top of the seventh had a productive at-bat. With runners on 1st and 2nd and the Reds leading 3-2, the Cincinnati center fielder reached on an error by the 1B.
"We'll savor this win," Lawton told the Cincinnati Gazette, "then get ready for the next game."
